Passed Route
DexterPark
Just passed the ROUTE exam 30 minutes ago. I just barely passed, but I'm happy. To date, this has been the hardest exam I have ever taken in my life.
It took me more tries than I care to admit to pass the ROUTE, but it felt like something in me just snapped, and I spent a month studying in a public library for three hours a day. I studied until I knew how EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP worked and the interesting differences between them. I didn't stop until I had known what every LSA did, and if it was an Intra or Inter area LSA, the difference between the type 5 & type 7 external LSAs ect.... I labbed up and just broke the configuration every way I could just to see what the protocol would do. I forgot a good bit of my first and second week studies (EIGRP/BGP), but I remembered enough to pass the test. I used the INE route videos, the exam guide, and GNS3/home lab.
All I need now is to pass TSHOOT, and I can leave off routing and go back to my homeland of Voice. I'm not sure if I'll ever attempt the CCIE R&S, but I'll leave that option open in the future if I get more R&S experience.

Congratulations! Im about to start studying for ROUTE, the first of the three exams, just printing out all the labs seems almost overwhelming.
I shall persevere though, and see you on the other side some day

Have any advice on how to know what every LSA does and the differences between them Type 5 and 7 etc.? I struggled with it when I first read over the CCNP material for it and decided to move on with other topics to revisit it to hope that it would make more sense then.

The best way to learn the LSA types is to really understand how OSPF exchanges information. Once you have that down you just need to memorize the number to the type which is basic memorization.

Check out the INE videos, they are the absolute best when it comes to learning OSPF. I had a blank notebook which I used to scribble notes in, and I almost ran out of paper. They go deep.
