What are your opinions on this job....

Note the skill list, desired experience and of course the compensation range. I'm curious what other IT professionals reactions are to it.

Summary:
This is a permanent, full-time, salaried position with benefits and 401k. We also provide a car and cell phone allowance. We are seeking qualified individuals for our Dallas office. As a Systems Network Engineer you will work in our office and in the field servicing existing accounts as well as installing new systems. The successful candidate must have strong server and networking experience, time management skills, documentation skills, people skills, work ethic and an eagerness to learn.

Required Technical Knowledge:
• Labtech or Kaseya Remote Monitoring and Management
• PowerShell Scripting (Basic)
• Connectwise or comparable ticketing systems
• LAN/WAN (VPN, VLAN, Firewalls, T1's, etc.)
• Microsoft Server 2003/2008/2012 (including SBS versions)
o Including installation, migration and administration
• Active Directory and Group Policy
• Exchange 2007/2010 with migration, upgrade and administration experience
• Virtualization environments (VMWare, MS Hyper-V, ZEN)
• Router Configuration and Network Equipment (Cisco, Dell, Netgear, DLink)
• Backup & Disaster Recovery (Storagecraft, Datto, Backup Exec, etc.)
• Spam / Content filtering (GFI, Spam Soap, Barracuda, etc.)
• Wireless Technologies (Meraki AP's, Cisco AP's, etc.)
• Software (Virus, Accounting, Productivity, CRM, etc.)
• Firewall (SonicWall, Watchguard, Cisco Pix)
• Managed Switches (VLAN, QOS, etc.)
• Dell Server Hardware (DRAC, RAID, SAS, etc.)
• Storage Solutions (SAN, FAS, NAS, etc.)

Requirements:
• 5+ Years of experience is preferred but not required
• Experience in the Small to Medium Business Space, preferably Managed Services
• College Degree or equivalent industry certifications a PLUS
• Vehicle capable of transporting and securing tools and materials.
• Clean Driving Record
• Working Laptop (Employee Purchase Program Available)

Looks like they want someone that can do everything and they want to pay peanuts including using your own car and laptop. I would avoid this job like the plague.

I get unsolicited emails for this job regularly. My opinion is that its some sort of mobile support. Like most jobs, it lists a whole lot of stuff that you may or may not need to know so if you are for example, an exchange 2007/2010 guru but don't know sonicwall, you may be fully qualified for this position.

IMHO jobs like this never pay enough for the car allowance. Unless you are getting at least 50c per mile on the car allowance this job will not be worth the pay. As far as the pay range it is low relative to the list above, however keep in mind that that list likely a company wish list, not an expectation of knowledge.

Oh yeah, I'm not applying for it. I don't even think I'd come close to meeting their requirements anyway. But it really annoyed me when I was reading it though. Crazy laundry list of skills required for entry-level wages. I wish I could talk to the person who create it though.

The salary range is almost exactly half of what it should be. Anyone who comes close to the requirements should be pulling $60K+ almost anywhere in the country.

This is why I haven't gone back to MSPs. They want everything and want to pay for nothing. It's almost comical how little they want to pay.

Ahh that actually makes sense. I didn't notice the part about the working laptop until just now. Every real job I've had that required a laptop has always provided it. They really need to make it more clear that it's a wish-list and not a true requirements list, because I'm sure I can't be the only one who found it annoying.

Maybe the long list of skills is just a pool that they need people for, but not all of them together? And it should have just been worded so.

And then I saw the compensation. Yeah.

Uh it says they provided a car and cell phone allowence, I would apply, it sounds like a job w/ an MSP

They said they have allowances/programs for both but in my experience they are never enough to cover both gas and wear and tear.
