Network Engineer - I got the Job!

kohr-ahkohr-ah Member Posts: 1,277
I want to thank everyone that kept me going forward and helped with my resume!

I applied randomly to a job about a month and a half ago and never heard anything back from it for a Systems Engineer position. I got a call 3 weeks ago and found out it was actually a Network Engineer job they just call it Systems Engineer internally.

I went to the interviews had all 3 in the same week and heard nothing back. I called just today to see if the position was filled and they offered me the job! 10k more + bonus and they are going to teach me MPLS, BGP, and more! I am so excited!

I work in an operations center but it isn't like a traditional NOC. There aren't screens or anything but we have a monitoring system that shows the circuits going to the 1000 stores that I'll have login to. I am to troubleshoot circuit issues when needed else troubleshoot issues being seen with OSPF, BGP, and MPLS and make changes as needed to the configurations. Setup new crypto tunnels, break off closed stores from our mpls system, all kinds of stuff.

I have to be on call once a week every 2 months (I can live with that) and they will train me to be more indepth with ASA Firewalls as well.

They described it me as "You are basically level 2 support. You will get a lot of experience troubleshooting but unlike other positions you have the right to make the changes needed to resolve the issue and can escalate when needed to a senior engineed."

Wow, that's bad news after such an opportunity. Sorry to hear and good luck on the search! Maybe your old place would take you back with that matching salary they offered? :)
