Should a system/network administrator get ITIL certified or is it only something a project manager would need ?

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -
BGraves Member Posts: 339I worked on ITILv3 partly because I wanted to better understand IT from a business perspective. Originally got in to IT for the learning/fixing side of it, ITILv3 helped me better understand IT from a business perspective. Vital I think, but not everyone thinks so. The book is cheap, the information is good, and the test isn't terribly difficult. Definitely one I would recommend!

tombosauce Member Posts: 27 ■□□□□□□□□□My boss sent me to a 3 day class for ITIL v3F when I first showed up because they had extra seats that had already been paid for. To me, it was very common sense material. I probably studied for a total of 45 minutes outside of the class (which wasn't very intensive) and passed easily. It could easily be knocked out in a long weekend. I've seen quite a few jobs that have it listed as a "preferred certification". It might be enough to put you above someone else when applying for jobs.
