Any reason to know old CCNA material?

I have the books for the older 640-8xx CCNA exams. I got side tracked and never finished before the transition to the new x01-101 CCNA exams.

About to order the Odom books for the new version (probably later on today.), but just wondering - some material from the old exam didn't make it onto the new version. Are there any topics from the old exam that either got removed, or isn't emphasized as much, that would be worth knowing? Or should I just get rid of my old materials and focus 100% on the new books I'll be getting?
Goals for 2018:

Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
To-do | In Progress | Completed

If your current goal is to obtain the new certification, I'd just focus on the new material.

I would compare the chapters of the old book with the new book..

Most of the chapters are same word for word... I read the new book from pg 1 to end updating my old notes.

I don't have the old book right now, but I do remember chp 1-3 were the same chapters as the old ICNd2 book. The only thing I remember that was truly new was the First Hop Reduncy protocol, Some troubleshooting chapters, ipv6, and confiruging ipv6 protocols., and Network Management explaining the new license agreement.

The Wireless Chapter was completely removed from the new book..

I would just focus on the new books. Everything you need to know is in the new books for the exams.

I was a little apprehensive to simply discard my old books, but I'll do that and focus solely on the new books.

Another thing that I'm worried about is gaps in my knowledge going from the 640-822 to the 200-101. A lot of the topics have been re-arranged. VTP, ACLs, VLSM, VLAN trunking, OSPF, NAT, and Summarization are a few topics that I'd miss out on by focusing solely on the new 200-101 book.

I haven't actually had a technical networking position yet. I was hoping on landing one early 2014 after passing my CCNA. Is it worth it to compensate for the gap in the 2 exams (old ICND1 and new ICND2)? What would be the best route to go about doing so?

@DoubleNNs I was wondering the same as far as the knowledge gap between 100-101 to 200-101, having passed 640-822 I just figured I'll just study the 100-101 before getting into 200-101 just for precaution, safest route so you don't skip anything. I'd have to agree with Goldenlight, from what i've read so far a lot of the chapters in 100-101 is indeed very similar to 640-822.

I'm currently working on my ICND1 (100-101) through WGU. They provide the Odom books for the previous version along with CBT Nuggets of the new version. Based on the new exam objectives, the new areas revolve around OSPF, IPv6, NAT, DHCP (relay agents, pools, exceptions), and ACLs. It looks like they've dropped RIP completely. You can definitely use the old books, but you may have to look outside those resources for the new objectives (I'm not entirely sure, I'm about 50% through the material at the moment). I can't speak to ICND2 yet, but once I start studying for it I can update you.

Cisco ICND1 (640-822) old exam objectives:

    640-822 ICND1 - Cisco Systems

Cisco ICND1 (100-101) new exam objectives:

100-101 ICND1 - IT Certification and Career Paths - Cisco Systems

Edit: We are actually given the new ICND1 (100-101) book from Odom through Bookshelf (ebooks provider).

Likewise. But I have found the Odom book to be very dull. I am actually reading the Lammle Todd book, which is a better read.
