Contingent job offer problem

2 weeks ago, I accepted a very good job offer, contingent on background, education, reference and health check with a major medical university in the south. My start date/new employee orientation is on Nov 18th and my health/drug screening is on the 5th of November. I know I will pass the health check. HR says that they were able to verify my education but they are still doing references checks and they already contacted my current job.
I want to be able to give my employer 2 weeks notice but the new employer says if I don’t here from them by the 18th everything checked out.
How can I get them to let me know if all contingencies have been met before I leave my current job? I already got an offer letter, salary info from them but it still has the contingency clause.
I don’t want to jump ship and find out there is some BS background clause that will disqualify me.
Help

If there is something that you need to be worried about, hold out from giving your notice as long as possible. One week notices are becoming more prevalent. Also remember, no notice is absolutely NECESSARY, it is just best practice and a common courtesy. If you don't have anything in your background that you should worry about, then give your two weeks notice and breath easy.2013 Goals: /COLOR]x CCDA, [ ] VCA-DCV

The only thing i'm worried about is that on 2 jobs i listed, the starting/end month maybe be off because one job was 8 years back, the other a contract position (4 years ago) i think ended a week or 2 before the next month i listed. Also, i worked at a ISP and my manager is no longer with the company and i dont know if the HR person is still there. Another job my salary was 30K but i didnt get the chance to earn it becuase the company filed bankruptcy and we were laid off (but i still have the offer letter stating i were to be paid that amount).
I have most of my paystubs for each job and w2s for every job i listed but i have heard of people getting their offer recanted because of a discrepancy of employment dates. -
networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModBeing a month or couple weeks off on jobs 4+ years back shouldn't hurt you. I don't remember all of mine exactly and guess a bit. Never caught any flak for it.
Just tell them the same thing you told us and I doubt they'll have a problem shooting you an email or something. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

I gave reasonable leeway.
heck I can't remember daughters b-day sometimes, my anniversary. I think it happens -

Everything cleared, all contingents has been satisfied. I feel better now. Unfortunately, i was only able to give my current employer 1 week notice. -

No grief. My employer and I are parting on good terms. We have another tech (coworker) that will take over until my boss finds my replacement. . I've been with the company through ups and downs for 4 years even when others left without notice.
I couldn't turn down the 30% pay increase. -
