Anyone get extremely nervous 1-2 days before an interview?

I already had one interview w/ the lead/supervisor and I was surprised about how easy it was, however I get extremely nervous for the one w/ management I have tomorrow if you saw my other post down below, I already think by not having my Network+ I am not qualified enough for the Noc position but I know I can do it.

I was studying for CCENT, but I may back track and get my network+ so i can apply for other noc positions and then continue for my ccent since it'll be more geared towards Cisco stuff

Being nervous before is fine, but try to shake that before actually going into the interview. Otherwise they'll see it and think you'll buckle under pressure which is not a good thing in a NOC... "Yo, the entire network is down.. yeah all of them, everything. We have no idea why.."

its actually a phone interview, but i'll still be nervous, it didn't even require a ccna cert, just basic net+ and a+ i'm not worried about a+ but I wish i had my net+ right about now as its a great entry level noc position

The Technomancer

There are three tried and true ways to get over interview worries.

1. Gain confidence in your skillset. Play out the interview in your head. Imagine what sort of questions you'll be asked, and make sure you can answer them. Use glassdoor.com and other sites like that that track interview questions for different roles so you have an idea of what to expect. To be blunt, balls go a long way both in an interview and the industry as a whole, and the only way to truly project that sort of confidence is to know your stuff inside and out.

2. Do your research. Look up the hiring manager on LinkedIn. Search for projects he's been involved with. Be able to give a 30 second summary of what the company does, because that's usually the answer to the icebreaker question that opens a phone screen.

3. Always be interviewing. Even if you're happy with your current gig and you have no intention of leaving in the near future, interviewing is a skill like any other, and you only get better and more confident with practice. On top of that, hearing what companies are asking for as far as skills are required is a great way to scout out trends in the industry and learn what technology you should be learning next is. I try to take on one interview a month for that reason alone. It's a free way to get information, and this industry is all about information.

Use to until I realized I have no control of the situation. I basically go into the interview not giving a ^&#% and if it works out then great if not great.

Up until the day that I went in for the interview at my current job, I was not nervous however... When the day finally came, I was extremely nervous and felt like I needed to puke. When interview time finally came, I was surprisingly calm and felt prepared it all worked out too.

I forgot to mention this in my earlier post...

Remember, as much as you need and/or want the job, the employer needs someone to fill the job just as much. They wouldn't be hiring otherwise. Know that if they want to schedule an interview with you, you've already impressed them enough to want to talk to you more. Take advantage of this!

Plus, if you're already employed, it never hurts to approach the interview as if they're trying to lure you away from your current gig. You might be looking for another gig, but you're also a talented professional that can excel wherever you are, and if an employer wants your services, they need to show you that they're just as much of a fit for you as you are for them. Just like a car purchase negotiation, you only get the best deal when you're willing to walk away. As long as your requirements aren't totally unreasonable, an employer will give them to you eventually, no matter how much they try to devalue your rule, your skillset, or your importance.

If you already have a job, you're able to navigate the interview and negotiate for compensation from a position of power -- you're able to walk away, and they still need the position filled, while you're still getting a paycheck from your current gig. Use that, and project the attitude that you're a competent, qualified, and intelligent professional, and that you want to find an employer that you can work with (not for, with) to better their operations and better yourself. They're making far more off of your work than they're paying you off of you -- make sure you're getting career growth out of this role as well.

The nerves tend to melt away once you're going into the interview with the right mindset -- you're interviewing them as much as they're interviewing you, and you've already been given signs that the employer is interested in your skillset. They've already given you the confidence you need to approach the interview with this mindset! Employ that mindset, project that confidence, open strong, and close strong. Once you're done, walk out, take a deep breath, and smile. You've done everything you can, and if the employer doesn't see that, screw 'em -- they aren't the only one out there and it's their loss, not yours.

I like the idea of grabbing every interview opportunity can (even though i'm not in a rush to leave me current job) if it happens it'll happen, plus if i stik at my current position i can make an extra 2$ an hr just by going to 11am

$2.00 more per hour is not a whole lot. If it's monetary gains you're looking for, I wouldn't count on banking off 2 more dollars per hour.

I know, i really want this job mainly for the experience, it even pays the same... I get paid more then the average help desk analyst

I used to get really nervous about interviews until I came to a realization: Interviews are two-way and I'm very much interviewing them just as much as they are me. If you truly realize this then your interviews become almost conversational in the sense that the two of you are having a conversation instead of you getting grilled on questions the entire time.

Didn't even get a chance to interview a 2nd time (with management), some other guy who was offered the position declined who had gone through the interview process but somehow made it work and got the job instead of me, but they mentioned they are going to be having some more positions open and will contact me, they seemed to really like me
