Are the MCTS titles for exams 70-640 & 70-642 still retiring Jan 31st 2014? or have the titles been extended...

these arent being retired, my understanding is the 70-643 and the 70-647 (MCITP:EA courses) are being retired.

The 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646 are part of the MCSA 2008/MCITP:SA and will remain on the market until MS decide enough is enough.

sorry, i should of been a bit clearer. I know the exams are not retiring, just like the MCSA 2008 title is also not retiring. But I wanted to know if the MCTS titles for 70-640 and 70-642 will still be available to achieve after jan 2014... or will that be our last chance.

As far as I am aware there are no plans to retire the 70-640, 70-642 or the 70-646 in 2014. If I were you I would try and get these under your belt sooner rather than later , you will need to take the 70-646 to get MCSA 2008 though if that's what you want to achieve

The titles are still going away in jan 2014.

"The MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuration; MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuration; and MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuration certifications will be retired on January 31, 2014."

By the looks of it, the 640 and the 642 are in there by mistake as they arent retiring, theres no mention of the 640, 642 or 646 retiring on the certification page:. Theres also no star against the exams stating they will retire.

The MCTS: Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard, Configuration; MCTS: Windows Essential Business Server 2008, Configuration; and MCTS: Windows HPC Server 2008, Development certifications were retired on July 31, 2013. The MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuration; MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuration; and MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuration certifications will be retired on January 31, 2014.

The exams are not retiring, but the titles are.

For example after 1/31/2014, you can take 70-640 and it will count toward MCSA 2008 but it will not give you the MCTS title.

They have done the same with the Windows 7 track. You can still earn MCSA: Windows 7 after 31st January 2014 but the exams required to complete the MSCA will not earn a certificate such as the MCITP for 70-685 or 70-68 and MCTS for 70-680. You will just receive the MCSA title and not the MCIPT or MCTS.

The exams remain extant until Microsoft shift the focus to server 2012, which this could very well be the start of.

Three exams in three months, it certain is achievable for the MCSA Windows 2008. Good luck if you're after all three certifications.

I dont have time with work! I am just aiming for 70-640, as long as i get one MCTS out of the whole MCSA I will be happy! So difficult with work and commuting in and out of the square mile.
