I received this book in the mail today. Bought it during VMworld 2013 as part of a deal. I got a signed copy of Mastering vSphere 5.0 from Scott Lowe after showing him the receipt. It is an 800 page tome that appears to be in 10pt font. I'm about 100 pages into it today. Definitely something that will get multiple reads.

kj0 Member Posts: 767I'm very proud of my copy. According to Scott I am the first in Australia apart from Nick Marshall (although I think he is an exception). Nick is signing my book at vMug in February and I guess I have to wait out until Scott comes to Australia next.
I've done a quick review on it already, I'm only onto Chapter 2 as I haven't had too much reading time, but it's amazing.

There are more "Master It" Questions, not a huge deal of them, but an extra one or two per chapter.
The books chapters are in the same order as Mastering 5. Which is really good, makes it easy to check up in the older book - if you want to compare anything.
I like it. -
sratakhin Member Posts: 818Is it worth getting the book if I already have Mastering vSphere 5 and a bunch of other VMware books? Is there a lot of new content?

kj0 Member Posts: 767The primary difference is the GUI. 5 is based on using the C# client where 5.5 is now based on the WebGUI unless it is talking about VUM. 5.5 also covers vSAN and vFRC - and some other new stuff.
It really depends on when you're planning on taking an exam. -
sratakhin Member Posts: 818I was thinking December or January. I'm currently taking a VMware class at UCSC.

dsp2267 Member Posts: 22 ■■□□□□□□□□I have the ePub version of Lowe's 5 book. Contents are great, formatting is awful. I prefer ebooks in PDF or Editions. If I could trade the ebook for dead tree, I would in a heartbeat.
IMHO, if you really want to understand how vSphere networking really works, at least to a CCNA level, Lowe is your guy. -
