Need Honest Opinions

I am looking for honest opinions on what I should do. I started the job I am currently at 2 months ago. When I accepted the position it was for a slight increase ($7k) in pay but I went from a Management/Sr Sys Admin position to just a Sys Admin position. Now I have a potential opportunity to go for a position with another company as an IT Manager that is almost identical to my old job but for a possible 40+% pay increase from my current job.

To give a better picture, my future goals are to make it into upper management. I highly enjoy both the technical and managerial work. I really like the current company I work for but the work really isn't that challenging and I can see it potentially getting boring down the road. I believe there is a potential for advancement, however I don't know what the time frame would be. The other company is a fast growing company as well but is already much larger, and from what I can find they have really good employee ratings.

My plan right now is to apply and see what happens, but I really feel I could get this new job and therefore don't know what I should do. I feel guilty for considering leaving my new job and hate burning that bridge.

So, what would you do? Would you ignore the other job opening? If offered the new job with a 40% increase from your current job do you take it and not look back?

Thanks for the help.

Based on your goals and interests, I would say definitely apply for the new position, interview and see what they say. Ask lots of questions. Once you have all the information, weigh out the pros & cons. It sucks to leave a job after such a short time, but you need to do what works best for you and your family. Make sure to take into account all other factors besides money...e.g. PTO, medical benefits, travel, demand on nights and weekends, conferences and how stable the business is.

I say go for it and if you get it don't look back. I know how you feel about the guilt part but think about it this way, what is best for you? Because that is what matters.

One short jump for that kind of increase I'd do it even for a 15% increase if it offered me a better future (the money would just be a bonus). Life is too short to possibly not be happy. It isn't like you are hopping positions every 6 months it is a one time short hop

It's normal to feel the way you do, but trust me if your company for whatever had to fire you after two months they would. You have too look out for yourself and whats best for you.
What you also could do is get the offer from the other company and show your current employer and see if they will be willing to match it.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to put in for it and see what happens. If I get offered the position then I will re-assess at that time.
