Sorry for the question, because I just bought the 301 book, but when will it be changed to
401?

Not sure which book you bought so I can't speak directly to it. However, if it is a SY0-301 exam book, you can use it to pass the current exam which is SY0-301 according to CompTIA: Security certification, CompTIA Security+ certification

CompTIA hasn't officially announced when the SY0-401 exam will go live but don't expect it before spring of 2014. CompTIA typically has a six to 12 month overlap for exams so you'll still have six to 12 months after the SY0-401 goes live to take the SY0-301 exam.


Many publishers are working on updates to their books for the new exam, but you will likely take and pass the exam long before the new books come out.

I just completed a network security course at my college. I'm currently studying for the Security SY0-301 exam. I'm using Exam Cram and Messer video clip. All is going well so far. My exam target date; end of January or first week of February. I'll keep you guys posted.

CompTIA announced the SY0-401 exam will go live in May 2014 and the SY0-301 version will remain available until December 31, 2014.
