WGU transfer credit help

techiietechiie Member Posts: 91 ■■□□□□□□□□
I would just pay for the application and have my credits transfer in to see what is taken but from my understanding once you apply you have to enroll before the credits get transferred icon_sad.gif. I plan on enrolling in a BS IT program and will be paying out of pocket. I currently have an A.A.S in applied computer studies as well as certifications in ccna security, ccna, mcts win 7, A+. I plan on taking a few CIW exams before enrolling to speed up my time.

CIW DATABASE SPECIALIST 1D0-441 OR 541 -DATABASE - 4
CIW SITE DESIGNER 1D0-441 OR 420 -WEB TECH - 4
CIW JAVASCRIPT FUNDAMENTALS 1D0-635 OR 435, 430 -WEB PROGRAM -4
CIW JAVASCRIPT FUNDAMENTALS 1D0-635 OR 435, 430 -WEB DEV FUND -3
CIW ID0-510 - FOUNDATIONS - 3
CIW 1D0-460 OR 470 Security -4

With everyones experience in the school what would you say will transfer and what do you think I'll have left from the classes I already took? I have attached my unofficial transcript.

Based on your AAS and current certs, I'd say your not going to have a whole lot left to accomplish. I imagine you could finish in one term if you were dedicated and IF your credits transfer (see below). As you anticipated, you will have some CIW stuff, plus L+, S+, and perhaps a dozen or so of general ed classes (maybe more because it doesn't appear that you had very many in your AAS). By no means is my answer going to be 100% accurate, just trying to give you some insight because I tried figuring all this out like you before I started.

Where did you get your AAS? This could matter to the IF your credit transfer comment above.

@coolasfan I got the A.A.S at thomas edison state college which is regionally accredited. I also have 3 classes which I'm still working on at straighterline to transfer sociology, psychology, and western civilization.

@coldtitanium If I use the refer-friend which will waive the application fee will they evaluate my credits. Or will I have to have a start date, payment, and all that good stuff before they look at anything.

Also would you two guys know if they will only take the a.a.s or will they they take that plus any additional classes I have. The thing that confuses me on the wgu website is what the A.A.S will transfer it says for B.S. I.T it clears all of the gen ed classes but looking over other people's posts it doesn't seem so.

I believe you can get an evaluation before having to agree to pay. Not sure if they accept the other classes. I guess that just depends on which transcript they get...Just call and ask man, I found them all to be extremely helpful. You might run into the issue of lower-level credit not transferring into a 4yr degree. I had that issue and had to take some classes that were almost identical to previous ones I had.

I had quite a few extra classes on top of my AAS and they took all of the ones that qualified as per their transfer guidelines or whatever. Not all of mine transferred, but a huge majority did (check my sig). I am not sure as to what/how they decide if a class is accepted or not. I tried finding all of this out and really outlining my terms at WGU prior to enrollment. In the end, I just sent over my transcripts and hoped for the best. Good luck!
