in MCSA / MCSE on Windows 2012 General
Just wanted to let you I passed the Server Virtualization passing it with blinding colors. Got a 714/1000 barely passing. During the entire exam, I thought I was going to fail, but apparently the God the Microsoft exams was looking out for me. I used the free training series on MVA and the windows server 2012 hyper-v installation and config guide from Sybex. Overall, I thought the exam was fairly challenging with a lot of real life situations. Now time to go on facebook and start bragging.

    I failed miserably ! I will definitely study up the next time ! Scheduled the free retake in a month.

    If memory serves, there was alot of performance based questions on the exam. Mainly, the drag into box variation. You don't need much powershell on the exam. Basic set-vm or get-vm + set-vmnetworkadapter might be enough. Highly recommended to set up your own server lab if you don't have experience with system center

    So it doesn't look like I am going to be able to take the test this Sunday. My question is, can I just no-show for the test and utilize the free voucher again and use the second shot that was included with it? I am beyond the 15 day limit that Prometric requires for free reschedule and really don't want to pay out of pocket to reschedule a free exam.

    I did not pass it either, I did not study for it other than sitting through the, I would agree that it was not too hard, I will try it again in a few months. I am in no rush to retake it.

    @tprice5: As far as I know you cannot use second shot with any 074 exams...

    I am not sure about utilizing the free voucher again (second time)... even I am curious abt this :)

    Q.I missed my initial appointment and am marked a “No Show.” Can I use the free exam to schedule a new appointment?

    A.No. The free exam is for retake of the initial exam only.

    Any tips for those who plan on taking?

    I don't have any real "hands-on" experience but have been doing technical sales in the VMware / Hyper-V space for a while and wanted to jump on this free cert.

    Anything specifically besides watching the vids?

    I would recommend you to check this free online MVA curse ( Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center ), which will help you to pass the exam.

    I tried this exam the other day and I failed by only 10 marks (I was having an off day I guess). I tried to schedule the free retake and Prometric won't accept it. Has anyone had any issues with the retake?

    Work around - Wrong but didnt see another way around - Take another voucher with another email address. Exam will register with the new voucher code with the old prometric login !

    Till someone else finds a way !

    I'm very hesitant to do that, I got off the phone with Prometric a few minutes ago and they said that the voucher is only good for one attempt despite the message in the voucher email.

    I used only the video course and my experience and scored an 862 yesterday. Granted I setup Hyper-V 2012 R2 and VMM 2012R2 in production before this test even came out so I was familiar with what was on the test already. There are certain things I haven't dealt with like the templates in the library of VMM and APP Controller. We mainly use our Hyper-V to just run every day VM's in production so not much need for the other stuff.

    I have no "hands on" exp with hyperv but work with VMW every day which is why i am trying to gauge the usefulness of the video course for someone without hands on administration exp.

    I would say that the videos will get you very close. I would watch them for sure. I would also setup a lab so that you get the behind the scenes on how to setup a cluster and then implement vmm. Use TechNet to fill in the gaps that you are unsure on.
