How do I keep my certification alive?

Recently passed Security Plus a few weeks ago.

I read on the CompTia website about the whole continuing education thing, but a lot of the websites offered are sites you have to pay for.

I understand I have to pay the 47 dollars a year for 3 years, but what exactly can I use as continuing education?

I'm in the military, so I have access to Skillport and various online training assets.

I'm taking a Windows 7 bootcamp in a few weeks. Would this be good to put as continuing education for Security Plus?

Could I do CCNA or CISSP Skillport classes?

What's something that you use for CE?

Oh and I hope everyone is having a happy holiday so far.

I saw that link but it explains what I can use as continuing education through those sites alone.

I'm wondering what else I can use.

What do you mean by keep it alive? Do you mean ways to renew it before it expires without taking the exam again?

The page that TechGuy215 pointed to also has a link to this PDF: http://certification.comptia.org/docs/default-source/certification-documents/ce_chartv10.pdf. That document lists all kinds of things you can do to get CEUs including attending classes, attending webinars, attending conferences, work experience, publish articles, white papers, blog posts, or books, and more.

If the military is sending you to classes, those can definitely be used. Once you take the time to submit the CEUs, you'll see how easy the process really is.

I personally just killed two birds with one stone and picked up my SSCP which automatically renews the Sec+ along with my dues, of course.

You can do higher-level vendor certs to update your CompTIAs.

The Security+ is a lot more difficult to update in this method than the A+ and Net+, but something like the CCNA:Sec or SSCP can update your security+.

I know they had a .pdf file somewhere explaining it in detail at one point. I can't find it, but I found a link: CE Program: Renewing Through Other Certifications
    Goals for 2018:

I'm in the military as well. Your IA section should be able to fill you in on EVERYTHING. How to apply for tokens(yearly payment), which courses to take, how to submit Job experience as partial CEU's. I would personally just take a different vendor certification. Hell, you can even take Storage+ or CASP to renew it. You can also go to ATCTS and go to the documents section to find out more information on vouchers. Your local installation should have a website with upcoming classes. Most of these classes will afford you to take one of the exams for free. That's the route I would go with.

So, I should probably know this, but how many CEUs do you need to renew your Sec+? I looked at the chart in this thread, and each block showed different numbers based on conferences, webinars, work experience etc. For instance, work exp is 3 CEUs a year. How many total CEUs are needed for renewal?

You'll need 50. It looks like all but 2 exams on the list will be able to renew your Sec+
