How many screens do you use @ work?

4_lom4_lom Member Posts: 485
So I recently used some personal funds to purchase a quad-monitor stand and an additional USB to DVI graphics adapter (laptop dock supports 3 monitors already). I've been using two monitors at this job for the past 2 years, but it got old, so I decided to upgrade to 4. There are several HUD's that I am constantly monitoring and having to switch between windows became tedious. Anyway, just wondering how many monitors everyone else uses?

I use three 24" monitors across two computers with synergy. One Windows 7 work machine and a Linux box I use for most everything besides email.

2 at this job, 2 at my last job. and 6 at the job before that. (that one was a DoD NOC position monitoring 2 different networks as well as access to corporate network. 3 laptops total on my desk.)

I'm not in IT yet, but use up to 4 screens at my home office (Ubuntu laptop, XP box, Win7 box), and a second thumbs up for Synergy. 1 mouse and keyboard across 3 different computers is awesome. I've also contributed about $100 towards their startup; it's worth it.

when I worked in a NOC I had 4 monitors at my work desk.

At home I have 2 monitors

At my new job, I will have 4 monitors again, but I have 2 computers, so it's only 2 each

I don't have to constantly monitor too much, so two is plenty for me. With as many workspaces as I can map to keys, that's all I need. One monitor to display my windows vm(for exchange and office) and the rest for everything else on my machine.

4 at work?? My company allows for one only icon_sad.gif . At home though, I have 2 x 24" LG's. Most previous employers I've had allowed 2.

2X 22inch monitors and a laptop independent of that. You can also switch your output to the wall displays (2X3 42 inch 'ish TVs) if you need to show others or give a briefing.

I use this exact same setup, and I'd like to take a minute to say Synergy is a royal pain in my arse

Especially when windows 8 synergy client won't do alt+tab and some other important shortcuts.

4x21" horizontal + 18.4" laptop at work. 2x22" + 2x24" (2 up, 2 down) and the 18.4" laptop at home. I've gotten used to quad monitors.
    Thanks, Tom

2 if I'm at my desk, 7 if I'm sitting in the NOC. And 2 at home.

2 plus a 13" laptop. There are occasions when a third screen would be really useful but after trying it I don't like how separated I felt from the office as I was literally boxed in by screens and walls (I sit in a corner with my back to the wall).

2 screens at home. When it is time to replace the monitors I'll seriously consider getting 3.

Three - but all three are laptops so that doesn't really count. I used to have two of the laptops hooked up to a 24" monitor through a cheap KVM but the monitor went up on the wall for Solarwinds. Now I'm back to a desk full of laptops...

2 monitors for both Desktop and work laptop, and my personal laptop . so 3 in total
  • wguhelpwguhelp Member Posts: 12 ■□□□□□□□□□
I always used one. One of the perks in IT of nearly every job I have done was direct access to the closet and/or the supervisor who approves such equipment throughout the company anyway. (Usually my direct supervisor who will say "Go get what ya want!") I always used one monitor anyway though...
