Network+ Exam Pointers?

Hey everybody, I'm new here and I've found this community from looking for pointers on passing the N10-005 exam. I'm taking my exam next week but I have a huge fear of failing although I've been studying. Does anyone know where I can get a good study guide or does anyone have any pointers for me?

Welcome to the forums Flow. Looking for a study guide today but taking the exam next week sounds a little challenging. At this point, you might like to look for some digital guides (such as Kindle books on Network+) so that you can get them right away. Amazon has created free Kindle apps that you can download on just about any platform so you don't need to own a Kindle to read Kindle books. Also, I'd suggest you read about performance based questions. A Google search on "network+ performance based questions" should help.

I took and passed the exam today with an 842/900. For studying, I read CompTIA Network+ Review Guide, 2nd Edition and watched the Professor Messer videos. Once I finished reading the book and watching the videos, I downloaded the CompTIA Exam Objectives (10ish pages) and wrote my understanding of each small topic next to each objective. Anything I didn't know, I studied the topic, entered my understanding and highlighted that objective to mark that I didn't know it on my first pass.

That worked pretty well for me, I studied for about 3 weeks total.

damn! what was your experience before the test and studying?

Have you checked out the Professor Messer Videos? I used them as review b4 taking my Net+. (Watched them on VLC player @ 1.25 - 1.75x speed. If I understood it already, I sped thru them. if it was a weak area, I slowed it down a bit.)

Have you gone over the objectives to gauge your understanding. Do you have any specific weak areas?

Have you taken any practice tests yet?

Well I've taken a Network+ class but I missed 5 classes due to me ending up in the hospital but I work at Synergy Bahamas as an IT Consultant intern where me and another IT Consultant had to setup a bank's network at their new location and I have the Physical and most Network points down packed.

We worked with

Patch Panels
Switches
Connected a server
PoE VoIP

a few other stuff also but I'm just afraid because I don't know what's going to pop up on the exam.

EDIT: I'm not too good with subnetting by the way

Take some time to go thru Professor Messer's videos. Also make sure you read thru whichever text book you have to catch up on the classes you've missed.

If you don't know what is going to be on the exam, you can get the exam objectives from the CompTIA website. It tells you everything that's going to be on the exam and what percentages.

I don't have much experience with networks beyond configuring my home network. I have passed the A+ exam and a few other similar type exams in the last year (WGU Student) so I have that experience to help out. There are a number of things, like connector types, on the A+ study materials that are also part of the Network+ material. Whats important is to find some kind of lab/simulation tool to use your knowledge. I used LabSim for that and being able to look at a switch and the connectors helped tremendously I think.

I'm not sure on that one. CompTIA does provide a small practice test (20ish questions I think) on their website. Head to the link below and fill out the form. You get access to the questions pretty much immediately.

Also, try Darill's website (he's the author of that book and a frequent poster here). He has some great (mostly free) material on his website. Look for this header for practice questions.

Welcome to the forums trekkie55. Sorry, but no, that book is not available in print form. zidian's link does take you to a blog listing many Network+ resources though. This site also has a lot of valuable resources.
