Chance for work?

Hello everyone I have been in Japan the last 8 years and will be moving back to the U.S. in April.
I have been working teaching at an international preschool and have not been doing IT. During the last year I have been studying and have got both my Comptia A+ as well as Network+ and am currently studying for my CCENT. I have been building my own computers for years and always fixing friends or work computers as well.

Do you think it will be easy to find work or not? I was hoping to at least get $35,000 a year. Is this unrealistic or doable? I want to do networking but I will probably have to do helpdesk stuff first I would imagine.

Thank you for your help.

In this job market, it will be difficult, and the market varies depending on where you live. You'll likely have to live off of contract work which may or may not make enough for you to live on. I've seen a lot of people leaving IT to take regular jobs because the pay just doesn't work out in IT these days unless you're at the high-end of things.

It is always easy to find work, it is just not always that easy to get it lol. As to whether or not you can obtain $35K/yr. working helpdesk, this depends entirely upon the area in which you will reside. You have been in an international location for 8 yrs. You also have your A+ & N+ already. I would not be so easily discouraged. I believe if you market yourself well & continue your studies, you will be ok. You will do even better if you speak Japanese.

Things are tough all over..... Not sure why you want to head back to the US if you already have a job in Japan? From what I've heard Asia is doing alot better than the west these days.....

What you could do is be a happy Gaijin and just take a job in Japan working for the US Government/Armed Forces or a military contractor using your Japanese language skills, which will get you some steady cheese while allowing you to get more IT certs until you can transition to an IT job.

Do you think doing an internship for a few months would help?
