Another job question..... ;)

Hey there guys, just another job related Q, would love any/all input you may have on this one....

I've been out of the IT field for the last 4 years and living overseas. Before that I had 2 years experience working as a Network Engineer doing telco stuff. I recert my CCNA in May, and got my CCNA Security in nov. The question is, what are my (reasonable) chances of finding work (whether it be contract or permanent work) in this current job market? Been looking for work a while now but no serious bites so far. Any recommendations?

Thanks! :)

What I try to tell everyone who asks, where ever that might be, is that there is a huge surplus of talent in the IT/Network pool.

In-sourcing,outsourcing, people getting out of college, people taking training courses, people getting out the military with computer/networking experience. That's just on a day to day basis. Not to mention the folks who have been in the field(s) for some time.

With that much talent floating around it takes some work to get noticed and get in the door. Employers have more reasons not to hire you than hire you cause they know they've a significant pool to pick from.

That said it isn't impossible, just harder than it was. Where your located plays a role as does what your resume looks like. So does where your looking (what job boards, social media, etc).

Your biggest issue right now may be the lack of recent work experience. How are you putting down on your resume the 4 years since you last worked in the US? If it's blank then that's a big red flag.

What about the jobs you had before leaving the country? Do you still have any contacts there that could help you in some way?
