Thoughts on Cisco 1841 router.

Question. Is an 1841 router better suited for a CCNA / CCNA Voice Lab or would a Cisco 26xx or 2821 be a better option then the 1841 ?

2821s & 2851s were great voice routers, but now the ISR2s are out and even better. 2821s can be had for a decent price, where the ISR2s are still pricey. I just bought a 2821, and will integrate it into my lab. If you can find one for a decent price, grab it. They can be used all the way through CCNP.

1841 is just as good as a 28xx for R&S and Security (and most of SP, but I stand to be corrected on that). Same features and commands.
It does NOT have ANY VOICE CAPABILITY
they are small, quiet and draw little power so ideal lab devices.

I did all my R&S and the router part of Sec on 1841s.

The 1800 (1811, 1841) Series doesn't do voice. They are good R&S/Security Routers though. For voice, go with the 2800 series (ISR G1 - 2801, 2811, 2821, 2851) or if money is no object the 2900 series (ISR G2 - 2901, 2911, 2921). I have one of each of the 2800 series (except the 2851). Recently, I bought an 1811W and 1841 which I plan to use for Security. I like that they are smaller and quieter [but no voice].

I bought 3 2801's for my CCNP Voice lab, I started regretting it later due to different IOS and module capabilities. I have since slowly accumulated 2821s, much better now! When I bought them, the 2821 were selling cheaper than 2811's on ebay.

Man, the times I wish that an 1841 would do Voice. It's so small, quiet and would be perfect for labbing. Oh well. It's perfect for routing labs.
