Winter Storm 2014 - Working from home

veritas_libertasveritas_libertas Member Posts: 5,746 ■■■■■■■■■■
Anyone working from home today? I ended up traveling out of state (SC to MI) and now I'm trapped without a flight home (the airlines cancelled my flight three times). I'm working and staring at a lot of snow/wind/ice out the window. Ah well... icon_rolleyes.gif

It is supposed to get -50 where I am at... might start looking for work in the south. Tired of winters.

The majority of my co-workers are working from home this week. I, being contracted, don't have that option.

I skimmed your post and thought 50 isn't so bad you must be in florida. I looked at your location then reread your post and my eyes jumped out my head. Its 5 degrees in NJ I can't imagine it being -50 thats colder then the north pole right now.

Nope my boss is from Northern Michigan. Laughs at the idea of working at home due to weather. However if the kids are sick or have an appointment it's total kosher to work from home. Just not weather.

(Seriously considered staying home to work today....even though it's only 10 degrees. If it was -50, game over.)

I worked from home yesterday. Nearly all schools in the state closed as well.

I live in Oklahoma - all the schools were closed yesterday due to the weather. It was 6F with a feels like temperature of -21F when I left for work at 7am. Today is supposed to be 50F. Silly weather.

-16 with the wind chill when I went out this morning, was super excited my car started! No option to work from home for me (the Division is very much against it, though I can do my entire job from my living room). But I don't have to go outside too much so it's not a bad deal at all.

-12 in Ohio this morning, wind chill takes it down to -35 to -40. Brisk for sure. Back in the 40s by Friday.

It was -19 here in Iowa yesterday and -2 right now. The college I work for cancelled classes and closed all offices both days. Feeling like another 4 day weekend here. I'm keeping up on email and have one meeting via phone today, but other than that I'm not working.

It's -6 here, but thanks to 22mph winds it's actually -30 degrees. Oh, and we're projected to have a "high" of 0 degrees today. I live in the Metro Detroit area, but my job is located in Port Huron. Sadly, since I work at a manufacturing plant, there's no option for me to work from home. I still can't believe that my car started this morning.

Was 73 and sunny this past Saturday.

Got down to 22 yesterday and today...we only get about 3 or so weeks of really cold weather, so I don't bother with buying a nice jacket (I'm cheap, sue me).

I don't leave for lunch, so when work is done, it's straight from the office, to the car, and then to the apartment.

Miss being AD in the DMV area...snow days galore.

Now I don't feel so bad about it being 5 degrees in NJ. Wish I could work from home but really that is only about 1/4mi away anyway.

I've been hearing about the snow storms you guys in the states have on the news. Looks pretty rough, hope everyone is alright.

I don't feel so bad about the 5 degrees I woke up to this morning. Also relieved my car started today, but I feel that pretty much every day :)

It's been crazy in Chicago since the winter began. We've been slammed with snow and then yesterday we woke to -13 with the windchill -50. The office was pretty much empty yesterday. Woke up to -8 today and it's suppose to warm up this weekend to the 30s which will probably feel like 70.

You Yanks should come to Australia! 30-40 degree Celsius (or 86-104 degree F for you) days, with light winds and the sun beaming down - perfect. Couple that weather with cold beers and a barbecue and things couldnt be better.

I'm in northern Indiana, temp was 19 below this morning. All of us worked from home yesterday, and I made it in late today because my car battery was dead. California is looking pretty good right about now. :D

Well. I have now been rescheduled for a third time. Yikes! The North wants to keep me. I'm hoping I get out of here tomorrow. If I do not, I'm afraid I may be trapped here until Monday... icon_sad.gif

40 degrees here in Orlando Florida and I was complaining. I would most certainly not survive below zero.

I would have considered it if we hadn't discovered Monday night that the AC unit in the new data center shuts itself down as soon as it hits -5 outside. Not what you want to be getting a call about while you're getting ready to go to bed.
