Wondering what your experiences have been? Does the position matter? Help Desk vs System Engineer?

Thanks for feedback.

It depends if your in demand in a remote market that cannot meets its staffing requirements from local hires.

A Help Desk person is common in any local market.

A Sr. Systems Engineer who's worked on 134532532 virtual and windows platforms in a leadership, SME role is a different story.

Companies are usually open to it for high level positions. As darkerz pointed out an entry level guys are a dime a dozen, but an expert is not.
An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Everywhere I have worked seems to have been open to hiring out of state people. However, in most of those companies for more 'common' positions/lower level positions, they may not cover your cost to get you to the interview or your a relocation expense. However they wouldn't dismiss someone simply for being out of state. As others have said, harder to fill positions they certainly would consider out of state, and fly people in to interview and consider relocation or sign on bonus.
