Puppet Enterprise vs. Puppet Open Source
Calling out all Configuration Management experts here, especially puppet!
I'm aware of the differences between Puppet Open Source and Puppet Enterprise ( Compare Puppet Enterprise vs. Puppet Open Source | Puppet Labs | Puppet Labs )
I'm just curious to know how many of you have used Puppet Open Source? Is it a viable option for small deployments or for small to medium sized environments?
I'm keen on using puppet but I have no budget for Puppet Enterprise license so I'd like to gather some insight from those who have used it.

I've deployed Puppet in environments of a couple of thousand nodes and the OpenSource version is fine. The scaling issues are pretty much the same when it comes to open and enterprise - move away from webrick to Passenger, use PuppetDB not mysql as a stored config back end etc.
You'll need something to replace the dashboard functionality, The Foreman will cover a lot of the common use cases. -

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm still new to puppet, any advice for learning it and setting up properly?
