I got a 3U - 16 Bay SAS enclosure and I just cannot decide what to use to present the storage to my virtual infrastructure. FreeNAS ? Nexenta ?
Are there any other out there ?

QHalo
I like Nexenta Community, but it has a 16TB limit. Dunno if that plays into your decision or not. I've been debating building a second storage device using it. You could also look at openindiana and napp-it.

Although Nexenta burnt me, or rather
my Christmas
. If I convince myself to use Nexenta ever again then 16TB Limit is fine .. Largest SAS disks I got are 1TB anyway so even fully loaded I would just about max it out. But I am using mainly 147GB / 15k drives so I will be well below 16TB.

If you were thinking of using Hyper-V,
Server 2012 has ODX support
which is like VMware's VAAI. But you need a license.. Just a thought.
