Would somebody be able to break down the important differences between IT Security and Information Assurance?

"Information Assurance" is about preserving the secruity of information (data, intelligence, etc.) in any context. "IT Security" is specifically about the security within an Information Technology department or organization. So you can say that IT Security uses IA, and that IA is used in many other contexts than just IT. -
