So network engineer roles are few and far between in my part of the world (one advertised every 4-5 months?), its mostly jack-of-all-trade type admin roles or software developers.
So one has come up, it looks ideal as a field engineer working for a comms company.
The only thing is, the maximum advertised pay is £4/$6.5k less than what I get now, and I'm due a promotion in April and that'll probably be at least £6/$10k less...(though this role does come with a car...but involves commuting).
But I don't get on any CISCO kit as it is all managed, and the switches are HP and again, managed. I really don't want to lose what I have and am learning getting my CCNA...but that is a big, big drop in money, especially as the main breadwinner and with a family to support.
Help, what do I do?

If this new position moves you in the right direction I would seriously consider it. Or at the very least attempt to get some more interviewing experience.
Good Luck -

Magic Johnson Member Posts: 414Wow, nevermind! 18 hours ago it first was advertised, so I phoned with a couple of questions and she informed me the role had already been filled. One of those 'advertised to tick a box' ones.
Oh well, I guess there will be another one in the next year or so! -
dpsmooth15 Banned Posts: 155The minimal 70% of the jobs posted online are already filled… Don't think the need for hiring more employees in the company was labeled Top Secret and nobody knew…It's a inside network scheme, I tell my IT friends my coworkers tell friends… I hand a resume, send it to the "source" and my co workers do the same. and before you know it 75 resumes are already on someones desk/inbox before the job even posted. But Legally.. they post it

Funny enough, I never EVER got a job which was advertised anywhere .. No matter which job I applied for it never went anywhere. But out of the sudden the agency had "other opportunities" which sometimes worked out ..
So yea - job adverts seem to be not just to tick a box, but to fish CVs / Resumes ...My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
