Hi there everyone! Hope your friday is well.
I just got a surprise phonecall, saying a job i applied for 3 weeks ago wants a phone interview next tuesday!
Now I'm in a bit of a panic, cause I need to study like hell for the next 4 days!
Here's my study plan:
Review my CCNA notes (already been reviewing in the last weeks, so I don't THINK its going to be a problem)
Review my CCNA Security notes, especially IPsec, and hopefully do a few ASA VPN labs.
I just wanted to come to you guys and ask, if you had any reccomendations on what I should brush up on? Its been more than 4 years since my last Networking job, so I may be a bit over my head, but I've got to take every chance I can get! The interview is with a technical guy, so I know what I'm up against. I'll definitely be trying to study what I can from seeing the description, but some areas are maybe a bit over my head. The company develops a VOIP product that uses SIP, but that's as much as I know about them. I also have no VOIP experience so that scares me a little....
Here is a job description for reference: What do you guys think?
Network Engineer
Main Tasks:
· The operation, maintenance and management of our Data Center Network Infrastructure (LAN, WAN ) and
Network Services (DNS , DHCP , Radius etc )
· Planning , design, installation and configuration of network and security solutions (ASA Firewalls, remote access, load balancers , etc.)
· Analyze and monitor functionalities and utilization of network infrastructure
· Project support in virtualized server environment
· Support for the coordination and execution of maintenance work on the network infrastructure requirements
In order to take this challenge, meet the following requirements :
· You have completed a computer science education systems technology
· Designated professional experience in network infrastructure engineering and operation
· Very good knowledge of network technologies (routing, switching, QoS , VPN, Firewall)
· Good knowledge of Cisco hardware ( Cisco Certification a plus) and in the Linux environment
I'm slightly overwhelmed, but if I get this chance, this could be a game changer for me. Any tips or thoughts are more than welcome. Thanks everyone!

zxbane Member Posts: 740 ■■■■□□□□□□Sounds like you have a good plan, what is it that you do now that made you want to switch to a networking role after not doing one for four years?
I would recommend doing what you planned, brushing up on your notes and maybe even some VoIP terminology. Also I would recommend being honest in the interview about your limited knowledge when it comes to VoIP but that you are eager to learn given the opportunity. -

Levithan Member Posts: 72 ■■□□□□□□□□Anyone who's given technical interviews before or taken part in one recently have a say?
Sorry for the questions, Its just the first technical interview I've had in a couple years.
As for why I was out of IT...? I moved to a foreign country, had to learn the language, ect. It's more difficult than it sounds...
Hopefully I'll nail the interview and be back it the field again..... -

It may not just be me, but I'm under the impression that you shouldn't have to study or brush up on tech material for an interview as it should already be common knowledge to you either by remembering it or by always keeping it up-to-date. just my two cents...
