The plan makes sense if you want to remain a VMware admin for the next 2-3 years or so. Which direction do you want to go in? Do you want to get into the design side of things or remain at the admin side of the house (nothing wrong with either!)? The CCNP: DC is not an easy cert to get, have you got access to all the gear that's needed (physical or rental)?

Currently looking to remain in the Admin side of things. I mioght venture into getting certified in the design side of things in 2015/2016....but my focus is more admin.

I based my certification goals on Job Description and Interviews in the past and from my current job.

Currently i don't have access to the CCNP: DC hardware, but if needed I can always rent. I don't mind spending the money for rentals if it is for enhancing my career.

Yep, then the plan makes sense. I guess a few years down the line, you'll hopefully have found your calling and you can then get more specialized.

Good luck, you sure have your hands full with all these certs! There are tons of reviews of the VCAP5-DCA out there, I've done one too (see my blog). My point is the DCA is not difficult. In fact, I found it easier than the VCP. Why? Because the DCA is based on things an admin would do every day. Well, most things anyway - though there's stuff like setting up AutoDeploy that you'd once only. If you've got a couple years experience with the product, the DCA should take you 2-4 months depending on how much time you can devote to labbing.

whichever track you choose CBT Nuggets is a convenient way to get certified by watching the training videos instead of using the old classroom or study guide track.
