Advice re Wireless Network Please
Hi Everybody
I have been asked to set up a wireless network at a friends home. To my shame I have to admit that I have never done this before, so any help that you could give me would be great.
What I would really like to know is what would be a good firewall/router for home use with cable internet (UK) access. I need to setup 3 pcs, that will need access all over the house. Also are there any issues that you think I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,086 AdminDoes your cable company have any information for using a wireless router/firewall with their cable box? It would seem that a lot of Internet cable subscribers would want that same type of wireless SOHO setup, so I suspect that information would be on your cable company's web page.

The cable company in question (NTL) uses DHCP, so in theory all you should need to do is plug in the cable from the modem. However, the guy at PC World assured me that the router he sold me could be used with cable broadband. It couldn't so I exchanged it for a Belkin one, and I have to say that it was great. It comes with an easy install CD that does all the configuration for you.
Everything is working great and I have managed to earn some kudos from my friends. Job done.

Make sure the firewall is enabled and that you are using at least WEP security on the wireless. Better to use WPA-PSK if you have Windows XP clients.
