Sales --> Technical Engineer ?
josh.ferrell
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to the forum but I do have an age old and yet pertinent question. I have worked with IT resellers/integrators for nearly 4 years now as both a client executive and software manager/solution engineer. About 8 months ago I took a roll with another reseller that is more sales focused because frankly I couldn't find anyone willing to talk with me about an engineer or architect position.
I currently hold my VCP5-DCV, my MCSA in Windows Server 2012 with the last exam for the MCSE already scheduled and literally 50-100 sales and sales engineer free certs with companies like Veeam, EMC, HP, VMware and Citrix.
The problem I'm running up against is that thought I've designed or deployed most any mainstream OS or application server and worked for some time designing these environments but I keep getting told "we're looking for someone with more experience" or "you're background is mostly sales". I completely changed my resume/CV from what my official titles are but how do I get experience as a virtualization engineer if I'm not an engineer by trade currently.
Thanks for the insight.
