So much for the "free" class.***Freedom of Speech, Just Watch What You Say*** Example, Beware of CompTIA Certs (Deleted From Google Cached)

Bryzey Member Posts: 260Signed up. I already have linux+ but I'd like to see what Linux foundation training is like.
They have system administrators training so if the quality of the intro Course is good I will think about buying that training next year.
Thanks. Good find. -
JustFred Member Posts: 678 ■■■□□□□□□□Signed up as well. Wish the certificate was a bit cheaper though. 250 is too much for a lot of people.[h=2]"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true." Spock[/h]

Bryzey Member Posts: 260It's free of you don't do the verify thing.
No need to pay the 250, it's not as if the cert will hold weight anywhere. Just do the course for what it is, an intro to Linux. -
Cable_guy Member Posts: 23 ■□□□□□□□□□I didnt see where I can just "register" for the class, but instead I can either pay the $250 or "Audit" the class which I assume is what everyone else is doing. (Audit: Take the full class as anyone else would, but you dont get credit) So yeah, this class is not "free" but you can audit the class for free which is a little different... but I still signed up and want to take it!

cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 ModHmm... You can take the class, get access to quizzes, tests, as well as the online forum for no cost. Sounds free to me. If I had to guess I would say most people will not go for the certificate.

psheehan5 Member Posts: 80 ■■■□□□□□□□I signed up to edit the course at no cost. Not sure it's worth $250 for a certificate.

Did they get rid of the Honor Code certificate option?
Last week the options were:
1) Audit (free)
2) Honor Code certificate of completion (free)
Then they added:
3) ID verified certificate of completion ($250)
If they got rid of the free Honor Code option, that's not very nice.In progress: MTA: Database Fundamentals (98-364)
Next up: CompTIA Cloud Essentials+ (CLO-002) or LPI Linux Essentials (010-160)
Earned: CompTIA A+, Net+, Sec+, Server+, Proj+

jaywalker Member Posts: 90 ■■■□□□□□□□Good stuff, any reason why you chose Mint over CentOS or something else? I had a look at the list they provided and CentOS was the one to stand out to me, but Mint was listed too. I guess I can download a couple of them and play around with them during the course anyways but just interested why you chose Mint...
I've used CentOS while working at a web host out in Phoenix, Arizona so I wanted to try something new. I figured I'd take advantage of beginners mind and learn about Mint as well. I've been wanting to try it for a while cause I've heard many great things. However Kali steals the show every single timeGoals for 2015: ICND1 [], ICND2 []

cruwl Member Posts: 341 ■■□□□□□□□□Just found this, I've really been wanting to get some training on linux so this is awesome. I just signed up for the course Audit option and I'm in to the first section. Took all of 5 minutes

jaywalker Member Posts: 90 ■■■□□□□□□□Just a heads up for anyone who doesn't know yet: This course suggested using distros such as Mint but they emphasize highly on CentOS, Ubuntu and OpenSUSE. With that in mind, I've gone with openSUSE (GNOME) for this courseGoals for 2015: ICND1 [], ICND2 []

DoubleNNs Member Posts: 2,015 ■■■■■□□□□□Set up Mint as my main OS about a week ago. Might set up a CentOS VM when I start w/ this class over the weekend.
Thanks for the heads up!Goals for 2018:

DoubleNNs Member Posts: 2,015 ■■■■■□□□□□I've been making head-way in this course in the last few days. However, I'm curious of a general consensus of other TE members who signed up for this course:
Is this material a little too basic? I have very little Linux background, but for some reason I feel like my time and effort would be better spent on other Linux material. However, since I'm only on chapter 6 of 18 I can't know for sure whether it gets more engaging later on. Do you others who have taken (or are taking) this class vote skip or stay?Goals for 2018:
