I was pretty happy after I went through it, looks like I will only need 14 classes to complete the BS in IT: security degree. A question for you all that are going through the program now; do you think 14 classes in 6 months is feasible? Except for the two classes dealing with leadership, tech writing, principles of management and the capstone all the classes are IT.
I just wanted some opinions, because I would really like to fast-track my BS.

CoolAsAFan Member Posts: 239It is totally doable, by like someone else said, it is entirely up to you. I had 19 classes to do after my transfers, and have just recently finished all the IT classes except project+. My mentor is adamant that I should easily be able to finish my remaining classes this term (only my second), he says I should have no problem finishing a class per every other week with what I have left.IvyTech - AS CINS (Completed: May, 2013)

maakshif Member Posts: 13 ■□□□□□□□□□I'm just starting the IT: Security degree (March 1st start) and one thing to note about the transfer eval, is it doesn't list Technical Writing or the Capstone which equals 7 cu's and I also had Principles of Management (MGC1) show up in my Degree Plan and it was not on my transfer eval. I found on another site that a lot of people doing the Security degree found that the Principles of Management class was not on their evals either.
It kind of caught me off guard when I got my eval with only 49 cu's left and then seeing my degree plan stating I need 11 more cu's than the eval stated.
Not to deter you, just wanted to give you a heads up based off of my experience over the last couple of months with the same situation. -
srabiee Member Posts: 1,231 ■■■■■■■■□□47 CU's
I did about 47 CU's my first term, but that didn't include the capstone project. I would say it's not impossible, but 2 terms may be more likely when you factor in the capstone. I was putting in around 25 to 30 hours per week of study time, sometimes even more than that.WGU Progress: Master of Science - Information Technology Management (Start Date: February 1, 2015)

Danielm7 Member Posts: 2,310 ■■■■■■■■□□It really does depend a lot on the courses. I found some of the general ed or business classes could be done in a week or less depending on if you had experience in them. Then I had to do the Linux+ with zero Linux experience, that took me longer than the CCNA. Currently I'm stuck on the Java courses and they are taking me the longest out of anything so far.

Tyb Member Posts: 207 ■■■□□□□□□□Yeah, programming would take up some time. I've had Java previously but it has been over 5 years, so I get to retake them. I actually did have Tech writing and the Capstone on my evaluation, so hopefully no hiccups there. Thanks for the feedback all, I appreciate it.WGU BS:IT Security (March 2015)

Danielm7 Member Posts: 2,310 ■■■■■■■■□□I did 60 in the first six months, 14 is easy.
I'm assuming you mean credits, he's talking about courses. -

Most of the classes are 3 credits, which would mean I did roughly 20 classes in six months. -
Cert Poor Member Posts: 240 ■■■□□□□□□□So I know the certs have to be within the last 5 years, but are you guys saying the transfer classes have to be less than 5 years old? I'm screwed in that case. I've had senior standing and 100+ credits since about 2005 but the transfer credits to the state school were messed up -- I need to meet with a human advisor and firmly spell things out -- but I have been thinking about WGU lately to get it over with.In progress: MTA: Database Fundamentals (98-364)

Tyb Member Posts: 207 ■■■□□□□□□□No Cert, it seems to be just the technical classes. I had classes from 04 and 05 that transferred in. My tech writing from 04 did not however.WGU BS:IT Security (March 2015)
