Currently I am working as IT auditor, I have a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master of science in information technology. My certification are MCITP, MCSA(2012), CCNP, CCNA Security. On my current job I am not effectively using the skills acquired in my certification process. Due to this reason I am planning to change the job and become a network administrator but some of my friend who is my former classmate advised me to keep on doing my current job, telling me that IT auditing is better than network administration. I need your advice for me to make a good choice.

Do what you want to do.. both will allow you to take care of yourself. List your pro's and cons, and go.. obviously you have experience as an IT auditor, so if you did switch to Networking Administrator to fulfill more of your potential skill set you will not al of a sudden be an outcast to IT Auditing in the future. Do what you feel would be the best for you. I'll tell you this.. sometimes I ask advice from my friends so I can do the opposite of what they tell me... lol Just because they friends don't mean they know what's best for you all the time... -
GarudaMin Member Posts: 204Why not take a look at CISA cert and see if you are interested in security auditing? It will help you become a better IT auditor who can see security aspect in your IT auditing. Also, if you want to go into networking, it will help you become a better network security admin.

maharaliel Member Posts: 119@GarudaMin, Thank you for your advice, the problem I have with CISA it is only being done twice a year, if you fail you only have to wait six months for you to resit for exam, which also expensive. But I will try to see if I can manage to do it.

GarudaMin Member Posts: 204Well, if you look at it from positive side - you have 6 months to study
You don't have to take it until you are ready, but at least studying/reading the materials would give you more knowledge and enhance your auditing skills. Since you are in IT auditing, talk to your superiors at work if they would send you to training for CISA. Give them how CISA will make you a better auditor and how the skills you gained will benefit the company. Let them pay for it.
