I never knew if there were studies that backed this, but I always personally felt that way. I usually take a brisk walk or climb stairs before any activity I need to really focus for.. It always seemed to help.

I think this applies in general for any stressful situation as it takes away a lot of the nervous energy. I've lifted weights before my last three certification exams. Hopefully that strategy will work when I take my PMP exam next month.
