Have any of you applied for positions that were contingent upon contract award? How did it work out for you? In the event that the company you applied with wasn't awarded the contract, were consessions made to place you in a similar position? How much is an offer letter worth in this type of secenario?
I'm also curious what would stop a potential employee from applying with a competitor for the same position, once they knew what companies were in the running.

shodown Member Posts: 2,271I got my 1st real networking job leaving the NOC from a situation like this. I was working and interviewed, the award didn't come for another few months due to delays and all the other people interviewed were no longer interested, so they brought in me and another guy. It was a HUGE break for me, so go for it.
Don't apply through multiple companies for the same position, that will disqualify you.Currently Reading

Maybe they can put you somewhere else and that somewhere else maybe an offer OCONUS aka outside US. But they are in the business of placing bodies in slots not in finding you a position if they don't get the contract.2015 Goals: VCP-550 - CISA - 70-417

This was related to the company expanding through bringing on a big client though.

Just thought maybe it would be a good way to hedge my bet, in the event another company got the contract.... When there's three or more companies bidding on a contract, and are looking to fill positions, how do you know which one is the best bet, without "interviewing" with all three? -

Oh, believe me, I get it- contractors are resources... and usually the cheapest resource fills the position. I was just curious if anyone was in a scenario where they were offered a position, but the contract fell through, if the hiring manager offered to place you on another contract vehicle. -

To put a different spin on this I did this as the contractor on a recent contract bid that I worked on. I found a retired General that fit a specific description. My company gave him an offer letter contingent upon contract award. He was approached by the two contenders and made offers also but was honest from the get-go. We did not drop our offer because he had offer letters from the competition. In fact my HR recruiter said if he was unhappy with our offer send her the contenders letters and we can try to match.
