Career Change into IT

Hi all,
I was let go from my job in sales a couple of months ago, and this was my first job out of college. About 6 months ago I started thinking to myself that I wanted to get out of sales, and move towards IT or InfoSec. I have multiple friends that are in security that work with different government contractors, and I would like to try and pursue the same type of job. I'm about to take my A+ exam, and was wondering with my lack of knowledge and experience if the GSEC bootcamp from SANS would be too much for me. I thought about trying for the Sec+, after my A+ but then I figured the GSEC would be more valuable and companies would prefer to see the GSEC on my resume. I would love to hear some other advice from some of the members on this site on my situation. Thanks.

TomkoTech Member Posts: 438Have you considered going into technical sales? The ceiling for your salary would be much higher much faster on the sales side of things.
As for the infosec idea. You're going to be limited by your experience. Having a cert with literally zero experience isn't going to do much for you. If you had 2-5 years of experience doing anything else in IT and then got the security certs it would probably help a lot. Do a search on indeed.com or any of the other job boards. You will be hard pressed to find any InfoSec openings that are looking for anyone with less than 5+ years of experience IN InfoSec. -
