Changing Career Goal from Network To System Admin

A little Back Story...
My previous goal was to become a Network Administrator. With the advice gained from some of the members here, I work my way up from nothing to getting a job at Geek Squad then as Helpdesk Tech. Spent one year in that role and started sending out applications for NOC positions getting calls for a few interviews. Unfortunately I had to relocate further South unexpectedly and turned down a very good offer. The area I am in now does not have any NOC or entry level Network Admin postings only System Admin. Found a job as an IT Specialist (Road Warrior) to pay the bills.
I have decided to embrace this opportunity and would like to pursue a career as System Admin. I knew the path I needed to follow to become a Network Admin but not for System. Any advice on what I should focus on learning to make this happen? What is your typical System Administer responsibility? Certs?

Anonymouse Member Posts: 509 ■■■■□□□□□□Isn't desktop support to system admin typical? I've seen that often around these parts. I went from a helpdesk password reset monkey to sysadmin but I still do a whole lot of desktop support in my position due to the nature of working at a small company.
