Talked to my EC, change coming to WGU IT programs.

I talked to my EC yesterday, he told me changes are coming to all the IT programs and the Software Development program is going to set the ground work. Some Gen Ed courses, Gen IT courses and then there will be more of a focus on your particular emphasis. Also told that some of the basic certs will be removed (A+ mentioned specifically). I am looking at Security track and he said that CCNA and CCNA: Security would remain, but there would be more coursework related in Security. Will be looking forward to the new program outlines when they are released this summer.
Has anyone else heard anything? Mahbe a good idea of what Software Development may offer in Gen Ed and Gen IT?

I haven't heard anything. I've talked to my mentor many times specifically about the security track needing more in the way of actual security, would be nice if they did it. Would be too late for me but good for the future people going through. -

I've already got a B.S in a unrelated IT field, and I applied to admissions for WGU yesterday for the IT Security track. I'm interested in hearing what they will be changing and what added security courses they will put in the curriculum. When I first looked at it I was surprised there wasn't more of a focus on security. -

I'll be graduating soon from the IT - Security track. I do wish they had more emphasis in actual security. It'd be nice to see them drop the CEH down to the B.S., or add something like a SSCP/CASP. -

Yep, those are the sort of changes that I've been asking for too. Even if they aren't certs, courses in actual security vs. a strangely large number of classes on web design and development would be great. -

I agree. I'm graduating at the end of April, and most of my coursework were web design courses or humanities, since my technical certifications transferred in and eliminated the Linux and Security related certifications. -

There is going to be a shift to more in-house classes, with cert vouchers being optional for students who pass their WGU exam on the first try. It'll save the school money, and save students the hassle of sitting for garbage certs like CIW and MTA stuff. -

I'd be real cautious believing anything the EC told you. From my experience they are clueless.
