Should I ask for a raise? or bounce

I recently got a CCNP certification at my current workplace, a Network Operations Center (NOC). I have been there for about 9 months. We basically monitor voice networks for a large financial institution for the most part. The other aspects of our responsibilities include providing tier 1 support for Avaya and Shortel systems.

Ok, given that I have about 10 years of general network experience (mostly helpdesk) but that NOC would be my first dedicated networking gig, should I ask my boss for a raise? I mean, what exactly should I communicate with him b/c my credentials are now Associates of Science (electronics), CCNP, CCNA, and MCSE. So far I forwarded the CCNP to HR. I'm doing a BS Info Systems to finish 12/2015.

If your plans are either to get a raise or leave, then it might be worth the effort to look for another position first and use that job offer as leverage when you have the discussion with your current employer. Either way you'll either get the raise you were looking for or have the ability to take the job offer.

Also, just an aside... this could create hostility with some employers. But, getting an offer first still allows you to assess your current worth, regardless of whether you use it in your negotiations with your current employer or not.

Talk to your manager and feel it out. If s/he seems open to the idea of a pay review, great. Otherwise, start looking around. It seems that a lot of companies wait until the one year mark for such reviews, though your company may be different.
