Has anyone ever worked in a full Linux environment?

I've come across multiple job listings for companies that are using Linux for most workstations / servers.

I've never seen this... I have come across environments where SOME workstations are UNIX or Linux, but very few. As far as server environments, it has always been my experience that the Windows server-base is substantially larger than the *NIX one. What a shame. :)

Servers, yes. Workstations, no. However, we have MAC's so Unix is around :)

I was in an environment where most of the servers were linux-based and the more technical IT staff used linux as their main desktop...that said, most of the people weren't technically inclined so it was still a minority thing

The only time I saw anything remotely close to this was one development team (Java) had their development team set up up RHEL 5.5 I think and all the servers were Redhat as well. The developers did most of their own support unless it was break fix. Kind of bizarre but I have seen it (sort of)

I would have agree. Windows almost always. Servers are better with linux in some cases ,but workstations are mostly unheard of in my experience.

Can you imagine how busy help desk would be if a company had Linux workstations. Average end-user can barely even use Windows.

My first job was a full linux environment. The only windows on site was for the Office Admin, and she had to fight for it. But she won because a certain accounting soft only ran on Windows.

Other than that, my current job is mostly Unix servers, but everyone has Windows workstations.
    Goals for 2018:

I currently work in an almost complete linux environment. We have some things that run windows (accessibilty station, machine that has to be on windows because that's what the multihousand dollar microfilm scanner runs on) and some laptops that are on windows. All servers and staff workstations and computer lab machines run linux. It's really great and I can't say I won't be sad to move on to a job that has a large windows environment.

I'd love to work in a full Linux environment. Sadly, in the DC area, things are pretty much Microsoft-based and usually a few generations behind the curve as far as hardware and software go.

I worked at a company that supported linux point of sales systems. It was a small company so we all pretty much installed a distro of our choosing for our workstations. We had maybe one windows computer in the office for creating ups shipping labels and the company owner at the time was running a windows desktop as well.
