Router IOS version for exam

hi guys
i was reading thru Cisco Press by Wendell Odom (INTRO),in tht he says the IOS version for the router shud be 12.2 ,but i have routers which r 11.2
will tht b enough for the exam prep(CCNA)
and do i really need a switch
any suggestions

I honestly do not know much about the differences in the two IOSs that you mention because I have never worked with anything below 12, but I wouldn't want to take the chance that there were.
As for a switch: Yeah, you need one at least, to do any kind of vlan config. VLANs are important for the exam and for real life. You can get a 2950 cheap on eBay.
