Looking to relocate to Atlanta, GA

Currently a California resident, but thinking of making the move. Just curious if anyone here works out there and may have any openings. I am looking for help desk, desktop support or a noc analyst as i'm pretty close to getting my CCENT as im taking the test this Friday

It shouldn't be that hard to get a helpdesk/desktop support position in Atlanta.

I've been residing in Atlanta for the last 7 1/2 years. I'm originally from Miami, Florida. I haven't found any trouble finding work here like in Miami. Plenty of Help Desk spots and also a ton of contractor gigs.

Look in the careers section at assurant.com, there is usually a few IT openings at their ATL location, not sure if they still have help desk analysts at that location though.

trying to stay away from help desk as much as possible but if thats what it taks for the first year i will do it, then apply elsewhere!

Atlanta is a good place for IT I was just visiting the area a few months ago. The weather is nice too!!

yeah, my wife is currently unemployed and has been looking for work for a couple months now with no luck here in Sacramento, so I was thinking she should could live with a friend that is there, find full time work (hopefully) and then I can quit my job in a couple months and find IT work there once i get some more certs!

Kinda funny you posted this. Since my job can be done from Sacramento or Atlanta we were looking at cost of housing there. I don't know of any jobs but we have three distribution centers there. I can send a friend referral if you find something you want to apply for.

There are a ton of jobs on Dice especially for desktop support (until I get my ccna), most want you currently living there so they can interview you in person!

You should check out the homes, the only thing tying me down here is my family. The cost of living there is incredibly cheaper! A 3500 square foot house that is really nice can be held for $250,000, where as the same house here would cost 450k

I had the guys I work with looking for me, I found a 6 bed 4 bath house for 150k there are multiples like that.

I suggest you rent first and get to know the different areas. Some parts are very nice , others not so much.

Atlanta is VERY hot. It's one of the top cities in the U.S. for IT jobs. I just got back from there on monday for a mini vaca, and I want to move back there SO bad. Go for it man, you won't regret it.

OAN: The housing costs within most of the city limits are getting pretty steep. OTP (outside the perimeter), you can find some nice properties for VERY reasonable prices. Go for a visit, and check out city-data dot com, and learn ALL about Atlanta and the different suburbs...Good luck!

that is exactly what I have been hearing! Gotta bring the news to my parents, I probably wont do it until Augustish so I can have a savings and pay down all my debt, I should also have my CCNA by then

I hear ya.. I'm in L.A. and housing is ridiculously high. To be able to get a great house in a good neighborhood here you are looking in the $500's. We are actually looking at moving to Austin. I just don't know how good is the IT job market there. I do know that LA pays a bit more but that's because of the high cost of living here.

I plan on moving out there one day. I'm in the Tampa, FL area and although being good with linux has kept me gainfully employed, I'd feel so much more comfortable in a booming market like ATL. The only downside is that I've got to wait until my wife at least finishes her bachelors degree in chemistry. She's probably going to either work towards a Doctorate or go to Pharmacy school but she can do that in GA. That job market is calling me.
