Data Center Technician Specialist (DCTS)???

ok I'm sure many of you are aware of the 1 for 4 deal that comes with getting the Linux+. Those would be the LPIC-1, CLA, and the DCTS. I've been looking online on how to get the DCTS, but I am at a loss. Has anyone successfully been able to get the DCTS and how did you accomplish this?

I just copied this from another thread:

    1. Register at LPI. Get a LPI number.
    2. Take the CompTIA Linux+ exams. At the beginning of each test, the test engine will ask if you want your scores forwarded to LPI. Say yes.
    3. Wait a few days for the scores to hit CompTIA. You’ll get a certificate in email.
    4. Wait a few days for the scores to hit LPI. You get a certificate in email.
    5. Once you are LPIC-1, forward the scores to Novell. Wait a few days. You’ll get bothNovell CLA and Novell DCTS.

From what I can see, Novell will send you your certification via email. I have received the CLA, but not the DCTS. I might call Novell to see what is the deal. I joined Partnernet today, but I'm not even sure that is relevant to this issue.

A blog post from a year ago mentioned a fifth cert, Novell SUSE 11 Technical Specialist. These seem to be moving targets of a sort. The biggest question I have, to be honest, is what value do the Novell certs provide?

The CLA isn't even worth the paper it's printed on.

It's nice to say you have 'X' number of certs, but honestly they don't hold any weight, even in a Novell shop.

    Yeah I'd agree with isud00d. I got l+ & lpic-1 in case I progress to level 2 or 3..

Don't see the point in getting any of the others though unless you have a specific need.

    Hi David, (daviddws)
Did you manage to get the DCTS? Please advice, I think that's a much nicer cert than CLA.
    Thanks

I have recently passed the Linux+ as well and didn't get any kind of DCTS. When I try to even look that certification up online I can't find anything to indicate that it even exists anymore. Considering that, even if you could somehow 'get' it now, I feel like advertising you have it could only look bad if someone actually tries to look up what it is.

While I may not put it on my CV/Resume, it could be a good idea to place it on your LinkedIn profile. If you were looking to move to data centre work it may get you noticed by recruiters.

Any news about that DCTS or the SUSE 11 TS?
I received an e-mail from Novell about the CLA and nothing else.

Did you log in to your account with Novell? I had "Tech Specialist" down the bottom of the certification page which I assume is the DCTS.

I talked with several people about this issue. I have posted the emails below. In short it appears the DCTS is no longer obtainable, and has been replaced with the SUSE 11 TS. Also there is no printable certificate.

    Hello!

I recently received the CLA and was told I was also eligible to receive the Data Center Technician Specialist (DCTS). Would this be correct and how could I obtain this certification?

    Regards,

    DAVID W. SCHUPNER

    David,
Thank you. I am going to leave it at gmail.com because that is how it is set up in our system.

    Hi David
Reading through this email thread you have indicated that you achieved your CLA 11 certification and that you have obtained information that the CLA 11 certification qualifies you for a DCTS certification.

The CLP Academy does issue the Data Center Technical Specialization certificate. That is a PartnerNet program and PartnerNet should be able to provider you with further information on how to obtain this status in PartnerNet and let you know if a printable certificate for this specialization is also something they can provide.

    David,

The certification available for members of PartnerNet are listed here:
    https://www.partnernetprogram.com/program/certifications.html
I do not have a Data Center one listed.

I am attaching the screen shot of your certification listing.
    SUSE CLA 11 - Certified 4/16/14
SUSE CLP 11 - Enrolled 4/16/14 (not taken the exam?)
    SUSE 11 Tech Spec - Certified 4/16/14

If you have information about the DCTS, please forward to me. I would like to update the content if it was from us.

    Holly

    Hello Holly,

wow I guess I was misinformed about the DCTS. Is there anyway I could get a copy of the SUSE 11 Tech Spec Certificate - Certified 4/16/14? Maybe this is the replacement for the DCTS.

    __________________________________________________________________________________

    Holly,

I'm not seeing a place to download the certification. I know that when I qualified for the Certified Linux Administrator it was sent to me via email. Can the same be done with the SUSE 11 Tech Spec Certificate?

    __________________________________________________________________________________

Ok, here is where it gets confusing.

You passed the SUSE CLA 11, which counts in PartnerNet toward the SUSE Specialization: SUSE 11 Tech Spec. So they are really the same thing.

So, the CLA is the Certification which qualifies toward you PartnerNet Specialization in SUSE.

Let me know if you are clear or if I need to explain it better.

    Holly
