Difficult study because it moves so fast. Also the practice tests I've used are so different I don't even know what to expect on the test.

yeah thats no fun! so your exam questions could be totally different material compared to what you studied for?
  • CyberscumCyberscum Member Posts: 795 ■■■■■□□□□□
I'm in. Only have been using Udemy "acloudguru" and supporting docs. Seems like more than enough to pass the associate test. When are you guys testing?
  • chickenlicken09chickenlicken09 Member Posts: 537 ■■■■□□□□□□
ya im using the same material, its quite good and well explained. i have no idea of a test date yet though. anyone have their test booked?
whats the best way to get a study group started? skype or some other form?

I've never joined an online study group, to be honest. However, I've been using Slack a lot lately a like it-- at least for instant messaging. It's something like managed IRC in browser (or app). It doesn't have video capabilities, but we could most likely schedule those using another platform.
Just a suggestion. If anyone has better options, I'm down.

I think I might cram for a week and take a stab at the AWS CSA next week. Regardless of whether I pass or fail, it's probably going to be a few months of slow studying before I attempt another AWS cert, but I want to have a min of 3 completed by year's end: 2 associates and 1 professional cert.

I have my CSA Pro exam booked on Monday next week. I had a shot at a free exam voucher at the end of last year, I just had to pass the practice exam. I had about 3 evenings to prepare, so it was almost an AWS Pro pop quiz, and only hit 50%. I've spent a few weeks watching re:Invent videos in the evening and I plan to read all the relevant FAQs in the next couple days so I should be in good shape.

We have a push to reach the next level of AWS partnership by the end of Q2 and there are stronger incentives the earlier you pass. I should be ready for the SysOps cert next month.

Best of luck to all of you guys!

Happy to join the group and help in any way I can. I have all the AWS certifications already but will be prepping for the Security and Big Data certs when they do come up as Tests and I think they will soon anyway.

Slack I think is a really good way to start. I have a Slack team called aws-ninjas. Happy to use this for that. I can invite any/all to start using the group. It is free so none of the advanced features can be used.

I'd love an invite to the awe-ninjas channel, even if we don't end up using it for the study group. But I personally think that would be an awesome medium to study for the test.

I just scheduled my exam for Tuesday. I'll see how much studying I can get done this weekend.

Best of luck! Hectic work schedule and sick of studying it has delayed my testing. I'm slowly studying RHCSA, very interesting, and I think I may finish that up before going back to AWS unless you come back saying it's real easy. It'd be nice to know if it's more engineering and adminstrating as opposed to knowing the most efficient setups.

best of luck, do ye guys think linux is a must have for AWS stuff? +1 for an invite to the aws ninja channel.
  • DoubleNNsDoubleNNs Member Posts: 2,015 ■■■■■□□□□□
Knowing Linux is not a must have for working with AWS, or even understanding the platform. However, most AWS study material will use Linux in the examples and might tie in a lot of Linux content, where certain people who are new to both platforms may not understand where the AWS ends and the Linux starts. I think this is because of all the automation capabilities that Linux offers, whereas Windows is just starting to catch up, and a large portion of the allure of cloud technologies is the automation and flexible scaling that it allows.

Definitely. However, as the OP, waiting for you to decide what medium you want the study group to use.

will we give google hangouts a shot? have ye guys got accounts?
  • DoubleNNsDoubleNNs Member Posts: 2,015 ■■■■■□□□□□
I use Gmail, so I'm pretty sure I'd just use that account for hangouts.
I'm down. Just passed the CSA exam this morning, but I'll be working slowly towards the other AWS certs this year so the study group would still be relevant :D
