I passed with an 850 score! Phew! :D

Now I just have to find out if I go for a OPST, CEH or SANS GCIH certification next. My ultimate goal is to become a penetration tester.

Thanks for the help guys!

Congrats on the pass. I'd say your best bet, if you want to be a penetration tester, is to set your sights on C|EH, in order to put some of those concepts you learned in Security+ to use with some hands-on work. Don't dismiss the "regular" certs just yet, though. There's a lot to learn before you can graduate to security, the higher up you go on the ladder. If you want to know how to secure the network, you have to know how the network runs, works, breaks, starts, stops, etc. . . in some cases, you have to know the network even better than those that only know how to run it.

Good luck on all your future certs, and I hope I'll see you out there, sometime, raking in those big bucks for telling network admins how much their security sucks. icon_cool.gif

Thanks for the replies. I have my tech college diploma in Networking so I used to know it pretty well, but nothing really hands on. CCNA & CCSP looks a little too advanced. (or maybe it's just because it has "Cisco" in it!). icon_eek.gif If I go for a Cisco cert, the CCSP looks pretty good, or do you think I should be getting the CCNA before the CCSP?

    Off to study C|EH.

Great job on the pass! If I had to pick the next cert for you I would definately recomment the CCNA before the CIH. The CCNA is well known and well respected and should open plenty of doors for you. The CIH looks like a great cert but the HR people won't really have a clue as to what it is. They might not know what the CCNA is but it is at least recognizable.

Just my 2 credits. Congrats again.

You'll have to do the CCNA, either way. All professional-level Cisco certs, such as CCNP, CCSP, CCIP, etc. . . require a current CCNA cert. Though, if you're more interested in server and systems penetration testing, you may want to think about heading on the route to MCSE, or one of the *NIX certs, like RHCE, LPIC, or SCSA. Cisco is cool stuff, but it's a whole world, unto itself. If you're looking at network security in that sense, then the CCSP is definately the way to go.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I'm more interested in actual Pen-testing, but i also have a passion for network security so eventually i'll head onto the Cisco certs.

For now, I think I'll do the C|EH and the SANS GCIH certs. I've just been accepted to Volunteer at a GCIH bootcamp in Vancouver so I can take it incl the exam attempt all for $500. Although I need to fly there and pay for hotel, etc.. Hope I pass the GCIH.

bbbngowc, i've heard that one a lot! lol

A penetration tester, is someone who tests a companies security by hacking in to see if there are any holes and report back to the company letting them know what you've found.
