You heard wrong. Maybe you should concentrate on the official CompTIA objectives and stop looking for goofy things to study.

There are no colors on there. Colors, while somewhat standardized can vary from maker to maker. Concentrate on the types of ports, cabling, etc.

that is good to know, one less thing to worry about,
after studying so long, I find that I am weak on
trouble shooting and configuration questions, I know
this is a large part of the exam and consists on the how to ..
type of questions that are more difficult rather than just
    name an irq.

I am confused about what kinds of connectors a SCSI can
use Serial, Parallal, IDE, Usb, or firewire, or network. interface?
    thanks again, ric

    Rick,
Why are you taking this exam?

I cannot speak for anyone else and am not pretending to read their thoughts but reading your posts the past month and seeing how hard you are pushing to 'prepare' for this exam, I just don't see what the rush is and maybe you could shed some light on that??

If you are lacking experience (which you have already posted), why rush this exam? Learn the material, get the experience (and yes a candidate CAN get experience and a job without an A+).

If you review CompTIA's recommendation for the idea A+ Candidate it states that it is geared toward a person wth at least 500 hours of experience. (that's about 12.5 weeks of full-time work).

They don't specify, but anyone who has worked in the industry and reviewed the objectives can likely quickly determine this isn't geared toward entry-level board swappers/ram upgrade people (where many newbies start). It's geared toward an apprentice level candidate, where someone still closely oversees the apprentices work, but each day they gain a bit more knowledge and receive new guidance.

    FWIW -
learning connectors and computer components, etc... by color...is really silly. At one time you could generally see that Black were EISA/ISA; White were PCI; Brown - AGP....but that has long since fallen out of the standard. Board Manufacturers have adopted whatever standard makes the board 'look' cool for those goofy windowed chassis. Cables all come in colors; periphiral cards were once green / some brown..now come in reds, blues, black, gold, etc... There is NO STANDARD regarding the color of the plastic/fiberglass components. You need to learn the computer parts and learn the OS.

As I've written in at least 1 other post to you....YOU NEED A LAB. There are older components available rather inexpensively. Get your hands on them, tear them apart, learn and read the books you have to get through this process. Passing the A+ without the knowledge to back it up (but merely answering the questions correctly) is wasting your time, your future employers time, and your clients time....and might cost greatly if you mess up a clients box.

Do not rush this process. icon_cry.gif

    (just adding my 5 cents)

    Hi Plantwiz and everyone,

thanks for this advice about the color standards, I must have read
a brain ****, but I'm not sure it was valid. Plantwiz you have
wonderful insight and know that I am pushing myself to pass the
test other than what my normal gut feelings and common sense
would tell me to do. There is a reason why I'm pushing myself
but if it is okay, I hope I can mention it later.

I have approximately 2 more months to pass the hardware and
software test. For those of you who have time unlike me to pass
the test I would strongly urge you not to rush this way in this manner,
From what I have seen so far I think a normal period of studywould
be 4-5 months to feel very confident. thankyou, Ric

Unless you are dying and it is your dying 'wish' to become A+ Certified before the years end....I cannot imagine a reason to complete the exam before one is ready.

If you are reading br@1ndumps this is my last reply to you. Passing to pass is not adding value to this certificate and make a candidate of no use to an employer...you'll easily be seen for the knowledge you have.

    -Get the objectives from CompTIA
-Get yourself some practice hardware and OS
-Ready a couple good books: Meyers; Sybex; Mueller etc.. (these have been named several times in threads directly to you).

Good Day and Good Luck icon_mad.gif

Hi, I don't look for any brain **** sites at all, nor seek out that kind of sites. What I meant that I try to get a feel for what the people who
passed the test on this board have to say and their impressions.

You have helped me alot as well as the other people on the board,
I really rely on your help and everyone else. Ric

Chill, Homeys...he's obviously got his reason for doing things the way he wants to do them. Let's just answer his questions and help him out if he needs it.
