    Once, maybe twice you can ask these specific questions but this board shouldn't be a study group for the CISSP. We'd be inundated with requests in no time.

    Your question needs to be picked apart or dissected as to what the author wants you to know and this is true of any good exam question.

    B and D are forms or formulations of different encryption methods and can immediately ruled out as they are in no way shape or form - fundamental forms but encryption techniques. There are dozens of these available.

    A and C relate to fundamental forms of encryption on first pass but we need to dig deeper than that. Symmetric and Asymmetric refer to direction of the encryption technique. Fundamental in nature but not the BEST answer. Leaving Substitution and Transposition. If your familiar enough with what encryption is actually doing within the algorithm you would easily recognize the substitution (Caesar cipher comes to mind) first followed by Transposition as being fundamentally or atomic (no further breakdown) elements of encryption. At its very basic level this IS what encryption is doing no matter what the algorithm does to get there.

    Fundamental= atomic = no smaller.

    Now, start a CISSP study group as "the best peers make for the best professors". - unknown
