Hello,
I have VMWare and VM Maestro setup correctly so I can use VIRL.
My Question is - is it possible to extract the raw cisco/switch image so I can import as an individual VM (edit the network ports etc) and do it that way?

The images are qcow2, which can be used in qemu/GNS3/openstack.

That was the original way to do it, but I think Cisco has locked it down since then.
You may be able to download the qcow2 directly from the Cisco website with an account, but you won't be able to get the newer versions without a service contract.

Had to get a refund on VIRL - It's so difficult to use for someone just starting off... GNS3 is such a great tool, its a shame they can't make Layer2 work better and improve their VPCS

You can run vIOS-L2 inside GNS3 and if you need something better then VPCS just link real Windows/Linux VMs to GNS3.
