Alright, I'm going to stick with my initial gut feeling of passing this one up. I haven't done CEH or anything else besides Sec+. Also trying to focus on RHCSA studying, so probably best I not sidetrack myself.

Best of luck to everyone who takes it.

Booked for the 30th. I'm surprised they still have it up. I'm sure more than 400 have taken it.
  • asiru77asiru77 Member Posts: 65 ■■□□□□□□□□
i also think exactelly like you , more then 2 month and still they dont get even 400 test taker from all around the world ? , this figure of 400 looks a marketing gimmick to me
  • EnderWigginEnderWiggin Member Posts: 551 ■■■■□□□□□□
Between this thread and the other, there's at least fifty people that have taken it....... And this is just one internet forum. There's no way they haven't hit four hundred yet.

I just took the exam this morning and felt it was awesome. Great real world hands on type of exam about what Security Analyst do. I could see it even replacing Sec+ at some point for the DoD since it aligns so well with what real world security people do. Now I have to sit and wait to see if I passed it. I had to rely on all my previous positions for the exam everything from Incident Handling, Malware remediation, Forensics, eGRC, Pen Testing and so on. Awesome exam whether I pass or not.

I don't think it should necessarily replace Security+. Sec+ serves a different purpose. The CSA+ cert is more aligned to go up against CEH, I think.

I think the issue is industry acceptance and demand. Still don't see much demand for CASP. They got it thrown on the DoD 8570/8140 but outside of that, what is the ROI versus say CISSP (which are different certifications admittedly)?

CASP is to government as CISSP is to private sector.

The government wanted a CISSP equivalent certification and CompTIA delivered.

Very few companies look for the CASP. I'm merely going for it because I work for the government.

@PJ_Sneakers with more companies wanting people who can jump in and do the job it would not surprise me since there is no way you would be able to pass the exam without working in the field. Unless you are an expert at guessing and always being right.

Right, well my point was that Security+ is more of a foundational certification. Cybersecurity Analyst+ is more of a specialized technical certification. They complement each other, but Security+ can complement any other technical certification in the market. Cybersecurity Analyst+ is geared towards security specialists, and that's pretty much it.

Agree that it should not replace Sec+. Basically anyone who needs basic security knowledge can study Sec+: devs, network admins, server admins, managers, compliance, etc. The CSA+ topics cover stuff that a security practitioner, specifically an analyst must know. Bro, SNORT, OSSIM, Qualys, Burp, too much for those needing basic security knowledge.

Took the exam this morning. I like where it is going. I am a Security Engineer so I felt comfortable with the information being asked. Some of the questions should have been broken up into two parts. The simulation, even though good for the test, felt a bit disjointed from a real type of analyst work. I really enjoyed the beta. I can see some improvement but my final assessment on it, is that this exam is designed and should be for the person who took the Security + and is very interested in becoming a security analyst. It covers the day to day and asks the person to explain how to get to a resolution quite well. I can see how folks may not feel as I do, but this test covers a good gap. The CEH in my honest opinion should pull back a little and be this type of exam. It does not make you a hacker but an analyst is more like it. I hope they really build on the feedback they get and make this exam a regular on their rotation.

Tried to reschedule my exam today (testing center issue). It looks like all of the beta test allocations are finished.

Good luck to all of those who have taken and awaiting their results + those who have it scheduled.

Agreed. I just took the exam a couple minutes ago. It really does test on every day security analyst tasks. It had a lot more simulations than I had on my security+ and I found the annoying bug that others previously mentioned icon_rolleyes.gif

Did anyone catch this on Comptia's Website regarding the CSA+

Coming soon! Final exam to be released in Q1 2017. The CSA+ beta exam registration is closed. If you took the beta exam, your pass/fail results will be sent directly from Pearson VUE when the exam is released in Q1 2017. Thank you for taking the beta and helping CompTIA further define IT workforce skills in security analytics.

I wonder how much it's going to cost after the beta.

    Somewhere between $311 and $414?

I was fortunate enough to grab a seat a couple weeks ago or so for $50. I scheduled this for the 30th. Earlier this year I also was invited to be SME as well, but did not take that up, I should next time for sure, as it sounds like it would have been a lot of fun!

Techwizard, definitely take them up on the SME offer if it comes in again (it should, i was offered Server+ twice, did it second time). It was a lot of fun, and very educational to see cert tests from the other side. I wrote a quick blog post on the week (short as to avoid NDA issues)

Based on the message on the CSA+ page for CompTIA, it sounds like exam results won't be provided until the day the exam is released. That's definitely disappointing to me. I expected a delay of a few months to quantify the values of questions, but I was under the impression that it would take a few weeks or 1-2 months, not 4-7 months. Then again, CompTIA also posted that they expected the Beta to close much, much earlier and with fewer candidates than it actually did.

Same here. I'm a little annoyed they made the CEU date begin on the date that the student took the exam, but as I was positive I failed (I got an 83icon_cool.gif and it cost $50, so I can't complain too much.

What a good pre-Christmas gift to receive the results. I thought we would have to wait until mid-February for the results. Since I passed, my other certifications have been extended by three more years (which I am grateful for).

Totally pumped I passed now I can add that to this years review at my job. Another accomplishment checked off.
  • EnderWigginEnderWiggin Member Posts: 551 ■■■■□□□□□□
I passed with a 754. Barely! But a pass is a pass. And that was with absolutely no studying for the test as well, so I feel like I would have easily broken 800 with a month of reading an official study guide. Congratulations to everyone else who also passed! And those that didn't, there'll be dedicated study materials coming out sometime next year, good luck! icon_thumright.gif

I just looked at my certifications list, and it looks like passing CASP in October renewed my CSA+ already. I guess they made it official as of the day the test was taken, for good or bad.

I didn't study for it either, so I was surprised that I was able to pass with a bit of wiggle room (766). Had there been official study materials available I think I would have done better but to be honest, I am just happy I passed!

I got my results tonight and I passed with a 781. I wasn't sure how well I did on the simulations. I felt like there wasn't enough information in some of them, but I think I did very well on the multiple choice.

I have zero plans on retaking... I'm sure it would be an easy pass if actually studied but my other Comptia certs are good for another 2 years still and don't plan on needing them anymore by that time. icon_wink.gif
