DR election with graphic

Hello again

Still one thing that I got wrong. Worse is I do not know why

Following link leads to a word document, with the supposedly correct answer

What I answered was:

RTD will be the DR of the 10.5.0.0/24 network

why?: Its E1 interface has the highest ip (10.7.0.1)

RTD will be the DR of the 10.4.0.0/24 network

why?: Its E1 interface has the highest ip (10.7.0.1)

RTB will be the DR of the 10.7.0.0/24 network

why?: Its E0 interface has the highest ip (10.7.0.2)

Unfortunately my exam is tomorrow and I am sure they'll ask a similar question

In addition, I would like to know why the election process takes place at all?

My studies have been interupted for almost a week. If memory serves (please bear with me, books not at hand yet), this has something to do with OSPF. I believe that are all point-to-point type links and the routers know that the election process isn't needed because there is only one neighbor on each link.

It seems to be a tricky question because a first glance you think that the connections are point-to-pint in which case I would say that DR election doesn't take place in that graphic.

But looking carefully you can see that the interfaces are ethernet which means that the network type will be broadcast. (I've just check that on my home lab).

I would have chosen the same answers as you. What did the question say??. any other information? one possibility is that RTC has a router priority of 2 and RTB has router priority of 0 in which case the answers on the graphic are correct

I would like to see the entire question as well because the supposedly correct answers do not seem correct at all. Maybe I'm confused though.

I've updated the word document with the question. It does not provide any more info though

It seems I found yet another mistake in the answers

PS: RTC will be the DR of 10.0.0.5 /24 because of the loopback interface.
This still does not explain why RTB is not the DR of 10.0.0.7/24

The loopback interface in RTC will be RTC RID but from what I know I don't think it will be the DR though since the loopback address (10.3.0.1) is lower than RTD E1 (10.7.0.1) interface address.

I think the question is wrong (the answers they give i mean). The good thing about these question is that they make you look into it and get to understand the concepts very well. The bad thing is that once you found a few of these questions and then you get 700/1000 in a practice exam you start thinking that most of the questions in these exams are wrong
