Network+ compared to A+

gregweb16gregweb16 Member Posts: 23 ■□□□□□□□□□
I just passed the A+ exams and I am now A+ Certified. I am thinking about going for Network+ next. How does Network+ compare to A+? Is Network+ harder?

Thanks,
Greg

Don't know if harder is the word, but there are different concepts you have to understand that you may not have seen in A+. OSI model, cabling standards (568a, 568b, fiber standards), cabling specs (max length you can use certain cables), different network protocols etc. N+ is a much more useful certification.

N+ is a great exam to puruse after A+.

Ok, thanks. What about MCDST? Is that a better route to go then N+?

You're talking apples and oranges there. The more appropriate question you should be asking is "Do I want to do desktop support, or do I want to be a network technician?" We can't answer that, only you can.

Hmm. That is a good question. Both topics are a good idea to learn about to become a better technician overall. Maybe I'll do Network+ first then MCDST...

You will learn a lot of good stuff with Net+ that can help you no matter what you go into later, so doing Net+ next is probably a good idea.
